Withstand the pressure

My fragile stelae are the result of an intensive research about the inherent qualities of stone, playing with its tensile strength.

Originally, I was primarily interested in how far I could push the limits of the material, how far I could go with the processing of my fragile sculptures before the stone broke.

To my astonishment, however, I repeatedly received feedback from viewers that the sculptures reminded them of heads with a heavy weight resting on them. In a sense, an allegory of how life weighs on individuals and what they can endure before they break under this burden.

As an artist, I leave it up to the viewer whether he or she wants to see these sculptures as technically interesting, geometric works or as a symbol of the burden of life.
